Day 3 of 100

Spent exactly 0 minutes on the Social Review launch today, which the results reflect. Instead, focussed wholly and solely on Social Broker. No qualms about this though – I know where my bread is buttered;)

I've always been a big fan of bootstrapping. After all, how is it a viable business if you can't find people who'll pay for it?

Anyway, it seems that with socialreview.io I'm finally running a 'business' that has the luxury of not having to generate revenue – because my main business pays for it.

It certainly takes the pressure off, but then without the pressure you've got to rely on the carrot motivators. For a natural procrastinator with 117 projects on the go, the stick motivators are usually quite necessary.

Tasks for the week ahead:

– Restart content on socials: we've got a whole heap we can repurpose

– Reactivate those inactive users

Today's activity:

Didn't spend much time on Social Review today, tbh. We reactivated a few users and importantly I figured out why a lot of people who'd signed up and connected their profiles hadn't actually scheduled any review posts:

  1. They hadn't added reviews to their Queue and/or
  2. They hadn't set their custom posting schedule

So my next task will be to share some 'how to' screen recordings. One day this'll evolve to a higher quality product walkthrough (UserPilot or similar), but for now Loom will suffice. Trying to live by the 'done is better than perfect' adage.

Day 1 of 100

Welcome to Day 1! The Social Review app was developed many, many months ago, however actually launching it had taken a back seat to my main business (Social Broker). Well no more!

I figure running a #buildinpublic series will help us:

– Stay accountable

– Take stock of our progress

– Assess what's working and what's not

– Adapt in real time, rather than waiting until 'the end'

And for everyone reading, especially early stage founders, I hope you find it super useful. I have no idea of what kind of numbers I'll be reporting on in 99 days from now, or what I'll have tried (and potentially failed at), but I can't wait to find out. Let's go!

We're currently offering a custom design template to all free users. Definitely won't keep this up – as it's a pretty valuable feature for the paid tier – but for now it's a great way to induce people to use the platform. Today we created custom templates for our 3 free users, hence why they're now active.

Tomorrow I'll start contacting the other 64 users to try activate them. Also super interesting to understand where in the onboarding process they dropped out.

And a note on the inactive users:

While I haven't really promoted socialreview.io we had written a bunch of blog posts last year. These focused on long tail keywords and these 60+ users have found us via those blog posts. It's been fascinating to see the different industries they've come from. We've got florists, Peugeot dealers, luxury watch resellers, accountants, craft brewers, interior designers and makeup artists. Such a random mix of businesses we can help.
